Dot Connector Studio’s Angelica Das and Jessica Clark recently wrote two papers for the Democracy Fund to help journalism funders and stakeholders better understand the current state of the field.

Pathways to Engagement: Understanding How Newsrooms Are Working with Communities explores the world of Engaged Journalism by taking a closer look at how journalists and news outlets are making meaningful connections with community members. It includes a taxonomy of engagement practices and approaches coupled with a wide variety of examples from the field.

Communities of Practice: Lessons for the Journalism Field examines the concept of Communities of Practice (CoPs) and offers an overview of the COPs emerging in the journalism field—particularly within Engaged Journalism. This paper includes a handy checklist for building effective CoPs.
